Edward Mills reports:

For a crew dressed in various shades of disgusting yellow, I think we actually did quite well. For one thing, we made it down to the start without our 'bow-banana' falling off*, and were even starting to sit a scratch four on our first row together: no mean feat! Unfortunately, our opposition had several advantages over us. Firstly, they were made up of what looked like several members of First and Third's Headship crew. Secondly, they were dressed as Canadian lumberjacks, and were therefore guilty of assuming false identities, a crime which should surely have cancelled out the head-start they got from bribing the marshals. Thirdly, we were allegedly 'late to marshalling', in spite of having had to wait on Plough Reach after pulling in. Sadly, though, our pleas (and our banana bribes) fell on deaf ears, and they started a length and a half up. That was more or less where they stayed for the first half of the race, before a push on the legs timed to coincide with our advantage round the bend brought us back to a length and a quarter. It wasn't to be, though, as their famed maple syrup boosters kicked in and took them back out to two lengths crossing the line.

On the way back home, it became apparent that Anna was originally going to be coxing the crew. One quick 'wanna swap?' later, and I found myself in the two-seat, with Anna getting instructions from Ollie on how to wear the headband. To be fair, she was pretty good, actually - fancy doing some coxing in Easter Term? Let's make a deal: you stop saying that you have "literally no idea what you're doing" and I'll stop crabbing every third stroke.

*A note for Phil Garsed, our Clareite CUCBC Safety Officer: we did actually have a bowball as well.
